Chile: San Pedro de Atacama Traditional

Reception at the airport from Calama and transfer to San Pedro de Atacama. In the afternoon we will start the tour leaving from San Pedro de Atacama to the Cordillera de la Sal in the Atacama Desert, the driest place on earth, towards one of its most picturesque points: the Valley of the Moon. The name already gives a clear clue to the landscape, where the rock formations are shaped by the erosion, salt blankets, the greater dune and views that will make you feel like being on another planet. We will cross the valley transversally, visiting its famous rock formations: the Tres Marías, the Canyon and the Amphitheater. To finish the tour, we will enjoy the sunset from the viewpoint of Licarantay, where you can see how the desert is changing color, with large volcanoes on the horizon, offering a show that will leave you speechless. Very early departure from the hotel to start the trip out of the city. The journey to red stones and altiplanic lagoons will take us through important tourist places within the Atacama Desert. To get to the Piedras Rojas lagoon, or Aguas Calientes salt flat as it is also known, we will have to climb in our vehicle up to 3800 meters of altitude and walk for 1 hour and 15 minutes, to see these copper-colored rocks, in addition to the lagoons and salt flats around. Later, we will move to the sector of the altiplanic lagoons Miscanti and Miñiques, where our guide will give us some explanations regarding the flora and fauna that inhabits the place. We will also make a stop at the Chaxa lagoon, where you can see flamingos. In the same way, we will pass through Socaire and the Tropic of Capricorn, where we will make a small stop to take pictures. Then, we will return to San Pedro de Atacama to finish our tour. ASTROFO-TOGRAPHIC TOUR.  Pick up from the hotel and travel of 10 km from San Pedro de Atacama, to the place where you will do this activity. There you will have this photographic Astro Tour, in a space with very little light pollution, special for the observation of the night sky. The tour, which is separated into three stages, will have a talk on Andean cosmovision.  In the same way, there will be a moment of observation by telescope, with which you can see planets and some details of these that are not visible to the naked eye. In the morning we leave San Pedro de Atacama to the west, visiting first Yerbas Buenas, a sector of great historical importance, since it has one of the most important groups of petroglyphs in the region. Through this place crossed caravans of indigenous people who came from the Argentine northeast and the Bolivian Altiplano, and reached the Pacific Ocean. We will find very varied carvings and drawings in rock as llamas, camelids, birds, monkeys and dogs. Visit of the Rainbow Valley. We will stop to stretch our legs and visit this place on a walk of 1 hour one way and 1 hour back, whose name is due to the varied colors of the rocks, product of the different minerals they contain. We will move to the sector of the Salado River, where a small valley is formed in which we can take a walk to appreciate the landscape. After this, we will return to San Pedro de Atacama where the activity ends. In the afternoon leaving San Pedro de Atacama to the southeast we will travel for an hour in which we can see the variation of colors of the desert landscape. We will arrive at the entrance of the hidden lagoons of Baltinache, where we can use the baths before continuing the tour. We will follow the path that will take us through the seven lagoons that make up this wonderful landscape, of which only the last one can be used for bathing. Due to the amount of salt they contain, you can experience the floating effect similar to that of the Dead Sea. After having known this attraction in the middle of the Atacama Desert, we will begin our return, passing through the facilities of the entrance to use the bathrooms. This excursion will take us east from San Pedro de Atacama, towards the Andes mountain range. Our first stop will be the Licancabur viewpoint, where we will enjoy our breakfast, depending on the wind conditions. If it could not be possible, it would be at the next point of visit, which is the wetland of the Quepiaco River, where we appreciate the contrast between vegetation and mountain range. Later, we will move to the viewpoint of La Pacana, and then visit the monks of La Pacana, huge stone pillars that rise vertical and solitary in the middle of the desert. Afterwards, we will visit the one that is more than 4,000 m above sea level. Here we will have some time to rest and enjoy the surroundings. Finally, we will pass through the Salar de Aguas Calientes, which is characterized by its waters of different colors, on the way back to San Pedro de Atacama. In the tour to the Tatio Geysers we will leave at dawn from San Pedro de Atacama to the Altiplano, climbing the hills and mountains of the Andes Mountains: After 1 hour and a half of travel, we will arrive at the Geysers, a unique natural spectacle in the world, with 80 smoking geysers at 4200 m. of altitude. Next to this natural scenery, we will enjoy breakfast, and then tour the geothermal field, surrounded by numerous columns of steam. Also, it is possible to visit the rustic pool that is within the same field, although at the moment it is not allowed to bath in the thermal pool. Back to San Pedro de Atacama, we will make a stop at the Putana River, where we will observe the native flora and fauna of the place.
